Sales Associate

Our Sales Associates play an important role in customer satisfaction by Amazing Every Customer, Every Time.  Floor associates are responsible for engaging with the customer, determining their needs, and fulfilling the "Helpful" promise. Sales Associate is a great career choice for those who prefer a hands-on, fast paced work environment where they are regularly able to interact with people.

 

Day to Day Role Responsibilities:

  • Welcome and greet Customers throughout the store
  • Sell hardware, for example: nails, bolts, screws, hand-and-power tools, electrical equipment, plumbing supplies, garden tools, and paint
  • Help Customers find the products they need for their project
  • Advise customers on tools, hardware, and materials needed, and procedure to follow to complete task customer wishes to perform.
  • Inform customers about quality of tools, hardware, and equipment, and demonstrates use.
  • Performs related duties, for example estimating amount of paint required to cover given area, mixing paint, and cutting screen, glass, wire, or window shades to specified size.
  • Assist with keeping our store merchandised and stocked
  • Help to create a team environment throughout the store
  • Other functions as assigned by the Store Manager or company official.
  • Ensure that Ace On The Lake is the Helpful Place for Bemidji and surrounding communities

Work Requirements:

Lawn And Garden Department Head

The Lawn and Garden Department Head is responsible for our Lawn and Garden Department.  Department Heads must exemplify the ACE culture through the execution of the Ace Way Of Retailing. Additionally, a successful Department Head will demonstrate aggressive customer service at all times, effectively lead all store associates and is responsible for successful and profitable department.

Successful Department Heads must be knowledgeable of the local market, customer base, seasonality opportunities, competitors and other specifics of the local market that may influence the business.

Department Heads are role models, leaders, problem-solvers, and strategic thinkers who must manage their time to help achieve budgeted goals.

Day to Day Role Responsibilities:

  • Be the Expert for your department, Lawn and Garden
  • Display or arrange for the display of merchandise sold in assigned department (s).
  • Select or recommend selection of new items into the store mix.
  • Train store staff on inventory management best practices.
  • Handle special orders for non-stock items.
  • Relieve as cashier to allow for cashier breaks and lunches.
  • Relay communications to employees from the Manager and vice versa.
  • Order merchandise weekly and as needed either through the warehouse or direct ship. Manager or assistant manager will order all items on promotion.
  • Have periodic responsibility for opening or closing the store.
  • Handle claims for damaged or lost product from public carriers of dropship items.
  • Help unload incoming trucks.
  • Advise Manager, well in advance, of any increase or reduction in need for sales personnel.
  • Daily cleaning and upkeep within assigned departments.
  • Notify Manager when you need assistance with your work.
  • Expected to keep informed about all products, new and existing, within your departments.
  • Watch for shoplifting and act in line with company policy that will discourage shoplifting.
  • Monitor shrinkage and recommend ways to reduce theft and breakage in the store.
  • Merchandise is to be pulled out to the front of the hook or shelf daily.
  • Maintain department inventories at desired levels for maximum turnover and profitability. Moving slower selling items on a regular basis (closeouts).
  • Ensure data accuracy within the store system (Quantity on hand, dollar accuracy, descriptions, etc).
  • Manage computer suggested order process (MOP’s).
  • Implement and maintain location and season codes where necessary.
  • Develop and monitor inventory management reports.

Full Time Cashier

At Ace On The Lake, cashiers are responsible for providing customers with fast and friendly service at the cash register area. Other responsibilities may include managing shelves and inventory and maintaining the overall appearance and cleanliness in the store.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Provides a positive customer experience with fair, friendly, and courteous service.
  • Registers sales on a cash register by scanning items, itemizing and totaling customers’ purchases.
  • Resolves customer issues and answers questions.
  • Bags purchases if needed.
  • Processes return transactions.
  • Itemizes and totals purchases by recording prices, departments, taxable and nontaxable items; and operating a cash register.
  • Enters price changes by referring to price sheets and special sale bulletins.
  • Discounts purchases by redeeming coupons.
  • Collects payments by accepting cash, check, or charge payments from customers and makes change for cash customers.
  • Verifies credit acceptance by reviewing and recording driver’s license number; and operating credit card authorization systems.
  • Balances the cash drawer by counting cash at the end of work shift.
  • Provides pricing information by answering questions.
  • Maintains checkout operations by following policies and procedures and reporting needed changes.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Greenhouse Lead

The Greenhouse Lead will assist in the ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing of all live goods and help maintain a clean and orderly merchandise presentation and overall store cleanliness. Plant knowledge is very helpful and is preferred.
This is a seasonal position from April 15th through July 31st.

There may be responsibilities available throughout the store if the circumstance is right for the team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Include the following, other duties may be assigned.
• Offer plant expertise and plant product selection advice.
• Maintain the greenhouse on a daily basis.
• Oversee ordering of live goods and nursery items and communicate with suppliers.
• Stock products and maintain back stock area.

Assistant Store Manager

The Assistant Store Manager must exemplify the ACE culture through the execution of the Ace Way Of Retailing. Additionally, a successful Assistant Store Manager will demonstrate aggressive customer service at all times, effectively lead all store associates and is responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Manager. The Assistant Store Manager must have expertise in company culture, merchandising, shrink control and operational aspects of the store. A successful Assistant Store Manager must be knowledgeable of the local market, customer base, seasonality opportunities, competitors and other specifics of the local market that may influence the business. The Assistant Store Manager is a role model, a leader, problem-solver, and strategic thinker, who must manage her/his time to help achieve budgeted goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

● Ensure aggressive and exceptional customer service is defined to associates and demonstrated as part of total store operations to exceed customer expectations

● Assist in achieving store budgeted goals through her or his key associates and/or her or his own actions

● Participate in local civic events and organizations

● Properly merchandising the retail sales floor to company set standards weekly and monthly

● Verify merchandise is received, stored and merchandised in all departments according to established operational and safety procedures

● Shop or arrange for shopping of competitors. Adjust prices PRN

● Monitoring delivery procedures to ensure merchandise is loaded and delivered on time and customers coming to pick up merchandise are processed promptly and courteously

● Reporting any unusual occurrences promptly to the Store Manager. Also, acting to solve problems immediately that require immediate attention

● In the absence of the Store Manager, leading all associates by providing direction and feedback on a consistent basis to ensure the store is being operated according to company policies and standards

● Help to prepare sales floor and other associates for promotions and increased levels of responsibility

● Introduce new items to inventory, provide all employees with information on new inventory that is HRV (High Retail Value) or QS (Quick Sale)

● Assist with training associates

● Helping create a team environment throughout the store

● Other functions as assigned by the Store Manager or company official.

Work Requirements:

● Salaried: Generally scheduled for 45 hours; more hours may be required based on the needs of the business. Work Schedule * Requires morning, afternoon and evening availability any day of the week.

● Requests to be scheduled off for a specific day require advanced notification and approval by the Store Manager

● Move throughout all areas of the store including the sales floor, receiving area, register areas, lawn and garden, as well as the outside perimeter of the store with or without a reasonable accommodation

Qualifications:

● Supervisor Experience: more than 20 employees, 2+ years

● Hardware Retail Experience: 3+ years

● 1 year of experience performing manager-on-duty responsibilities, including management of daily store operations

● Bachelor Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field; or combined education and experience
